Sodium Phosphate Monobasic Monohydrate is a buffering agent used in many products including acid cleansers, electroplating, and biochemistry. It is also a commonly used saline laxative. In addition, monobasic sodium phosphate is used in many applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Sodium phosphate monobasic monohydrate is a crystalline powder that is white or odorless. It is slightly deliquescent. Sodium phosphate monobasic dihydrate is a form of monosodium phosphate that has a different crystalline structure. It melts at 205degC. When heated, monobasic sodium phosphate dihydrate forms sodium hydrogen pyrophosphate. The two substances can then be separated.

Sodium phosphate monobasic is a mild saline laxative. However, it can cause nausea and vomiting. In addition, it has been used to treat hypophosphatemia. If used in high doses, it can lead to electrolyte imbalance. Therefore, it should be used carefully. A doctor’s prescription is required for its use.
