The ruthenium iii sulfide formula is RuF3 and it is the chemical compound between the metal ruthenium and the non-metal sulfur. The oxidation number of ruthenium is 3 and the atomic mass is 61.7 grams per mole.
Ruthenium Sulfide is moderately soluble in water and acid solutions, making it an ideal source for applications compatible with sulfate compounds. It is also a suitable substrate for the preparation of crystalline sintered materials.
Catalytic Properties
Many ruthenium sulfide compounds exhibit useful catalytic activity for various reaction types, such as olefin metathesis polymerization and alkylidene polymerization. These catalysts can be used to produce polynorbornene and have been commercially exploited for the preparation of drugs.
Electrochemical Performance
The rate performance and cycling stability of electrodes in energy storage systems are crucial issues that need to be addressed. In recent years, ternary metal sulfides have been proposed as a means to overcome some of the challenges that single component sulfides and sulfide oxides face in terms of their rate capability and cycle life.
We have successfully synthesized cobalt ruthenium sulfides through a simple hydrothermal method. The as-prepared ternary metal sulfides showed nanocrystal morphology, and their structural and electrochemical properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy.
The cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) experiments revealed that the ternary metal sulfides are capable of achieving good specific capacitances at 5 mV s-1, excellent rate capability, and superior cycling stability (81% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles). The optimized ternary metal sulfides exhibited good electrochemical impedance spectra in the range of 100 KHz-0.1 Hz.
