cobalt ii chromate is the chemical compound with the formula CoCrO4. It is a yellowish-brown powder that is soluble in mineral acids and solutions of chromium trioxide, but not in water. It is an oxidizing agent and can be used as a catalyst for organic reactions. In one example, it catalyzes the conversion of cyclohexanone to adipic acid under mild conditions.
The reaction can be initiated by adding a yellow 0.1M solution of potassium chromate (K2CrO4) to a pink 0.1M solution of cobalt nitrate (Co(NO3)2) to form the brown precipitate CoCrO4 + K2CrO4 -> CoCrO4
American Elements manufactures cobalt ii chromate to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; Optical Grade, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows relevant ASTM testing standards. Additional technical, research and safety (MSDS) information is available as well as a Reference Calculator for converting relevant units of measurement.
